How to reach and enjoy them

Santa Bárbara Castle

Walk up Benacantil or check current official access options. Avoid peak heat and never assume a lift or service is operating.

Ereta Park

Reach it through the old town and Santa Cruz. The continuous slope connects naturally with the castle.

Santa Cruz

Climb calmly from the historic centre. This is a residential neighbourhood: respect residents and keep passages clear.

Serra Grossa

The municipal network includes a circular route of about 5 km overlooking the bay. Bring water and grippy footwear; avoid heat, strong wind and rain.

Cabo de la Huerta

The official trail covers about 4.35 km between Albufereta and the lighthouse. Expect rock and sun exposure; stay back from edges in rough seas.

Half-day photo route

Santa CruzSoft light on façades and quieter lanes.
EretaOld-town and harbour perspectives.
CastleWide city and Mediterranean panorama.

Photography tips

  • Clean your phone lens first.
  • Use the grid and keep the horizon level.
  • Add foreground walls or plants for depth.
  • Use golden hour and avoid harsh frontal sun.
  • Never cross barriers or leave paths for a photo.
  • Carry water, sun protection and a small power bank.

Accessibility and safety

Castle access alternatives should be confirmed officially; Santa Cruz, Ereta and natural trails include slopes, steps or uneven ground. The seafront and some lower coastal points provide easier views, although rocky terrain still requires care.

Frequently asked questions

Most complete viewpoint?

The castle has the broadest urban panorama; Ereta and Santa Cruz feel closer to the old town.

Where for sunset?

Ereta and Serra Grossa can work well, depending on season and weather.

Least effort?

Some coastal points have more direct access, but the full Cabo trail is uneven.

With children?

Shorten Santa Cruz, Ereta and castle routes. Assess heat, wind, age and footwear on trails.
